Brief Academic Achievements :

Prof. Dr Sumita Jha served as a distinguished faculty member in the Botany Department at the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India, where she taught from 1990 to 2017. She continued her research as NASI Senior Scientist until 2022. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions to plant biology, cytogenetics, and biotechnology.

Her research focuses on developing transgenic cultures in endangered indigenous medicinal plants to produce high-value pharmaceuticals. With over 160 research papers and 25 doctoral theses supervised, Dr. Jha has earned several accolades, including election as a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, in 2008. She has also been a visiting scientist at renowned institutions in the UK and France.
