Brief Academic Achievements :
Prof. Dr. S. R. Yadav is a distinguished botanist and plant taxonomist with over four decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration. He obtained his B.Sc. from Yashwantrao Chavan Science College, Karad, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Mumbai. He has served at JSM College, Waze College, Shivaji University, Goa University, and the University of Delhi. He is currently an INSA Senior Scientist at Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
Prof. Yadav's research focuses on plant taxonomy, biosystematics, cytogenetics, and conservation of the Western Ghats flora, particularly rare and endemic plant species. He has supervised 26 Ph.D. and 11 M.Phil. scholars, published over 300 research papers, authored 8 books, contributed chapters to several books, and completed more than 20 funded research projects. Along with his students, he has discovered and described over 78 new species of flowering plants, and several plant species and a new genus have been named in his honour.
He is a Fellow of several scientific academies, including the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences. His contributions have been recognised through the Best Teacher Award, the E.K. Janaki Ammal Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award (2024), the Kirloskar Vasundhara Sanman Puraskar (2025), and the Sir Dr. M. S. Gosavi Excellence Award (2025). He also served as President of the Indian Botanical Society (2022).
