Brief Academic Achievements :

Dr Nikhil Babruwahan Gaikwad has conducted research in genetic improvement of crop plants for quality and quantity through induced mutations and conservation of rare, endangered, threatened (RET) and endemic species of the Western Ghats through tissue culture and reintroduction of these species in their natural habitats. He has established an Arboretum of medicinally important plants at Shivaji University Kolhapur campus.

He is working on conservation and genetic characterisation of medicinally important plants from the Western Ghats of India. He is also working on host-pathogen interactions and genetic characterisation of plant pathogens.
